Getting Started at Kids Can Do

What you need to know before your first appointment at our children's therapy center.

Initial appointment: Assessment and evaluation

All therapy services begin with a professional evaluation from a fully licensed therapist at Kids Can Do. A prescription for the evaluation should be obtained before scheduling the appointment.

A child’s doctor or other qualified medical professional will typically provide the prescription. Some insurance companies require authorization in addition to a prescription for evaluation coverage. We will try to accommodate your schedule when scheduling the evaluation and therapy sessions. After you receive the prescription, call (708) 478-5400 to schedule an evaluation.

Prior to your first visit

Please download, print, and complete the entire New Patient Packet available on the Kids Can Do website prior to the evaluation.

Insurance

Before your visit, we strongly recommend that you contact your insurance company directly so you are aware of your policy’s coverage for pediatric therapy services. Please note that a quote of benefits from your insurance company is not a guarantee of payment.

Kids Can Do will submit the required information to your insurance company of record. If you will not be using insurance benefits, Kids Can Do offers payment options at the time of service that may include an administrative discount.

First Visit

The therapist will greet you and your child in the waiting area and walk you to our evaluation room. The therapists will discuss your concerns, observe your child during play and other tasks, ask questions, and complete the appropriate testing during the evaluation session. An evaluation session typically lasts 45 minutes to an hour.

The therapist will share their impressions, observations, and recommendations with you. A formal evaluation report will be provided approximately 2 weeks following the evaluation. Therapy can begin the following week or after insurance authorizations have been received if recommended.

What to bring to your initial evaluation:

  1. Completed New Patient Packet

  2. Current insurance card

  3. Prescription for services

  4. Any additional documentation
