DIRFloortime®

DIRFloortime® can help children on the autism spectrum and children struggling with emotional, communication, and learning challenges reach their full potential.

DIR

DIR is the Developmental, Individual-differences, and Relationship-based model used to understand an individual’s unique development, biological challenges, processing differences, and relationship with the world around them. The model is based on understanding the developmental process and journey that is unique to each individual.

DIRFloortime®

DIRFloortime (AKA Floortime®) is the application of the DIR® model into practice. DIR provides an understanding of how development happens, and Floortime offers ways to promote development. Floortime is child-led and focuses on appealing to a child’s natural interests, connecting to their world, and then pulling them into a shared world to build their social, emotional, communication, and cognitive capabilities.

Floortime’s foundation in child development leads to success as children climb the developmental milestone ladder.

DIRFloortime at Kids Can Do

Kids Can Do and DIRFloortime®

Kids Can Do Children’s Therapy Center applies the DIR philosophy and method to help guide how our physical, occupational, and speech therapists work with children.

Depending on the child's needs, our therapists use Floortime techniques and integrate Floortime strategies into therapy sessions. Although Floortime therapy may look like play, it is designed with a purpose. Neither the child nor the therapist are engaged in aimless activities.

Kids Can Do therapists create opportunities for children to learn and achieve meaningful developmental milestones with lasting impact.

Therapists at Kids Can Do are fully licensed with advanced degrees and receive mentoring in Floortime theory and practice. Some therapists are specially trained and certified by The International Council on Development and Learning (ICDL). ICDL is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting each person’s development to its full potential and is the original home to the official DIRFloortime certification training program.

Evidence-based research demonstrates that Floortime strengthens fundamental communication and relationship abilities for children with autism and other special needs.
