Life Skills Group

The occupational therapy department holds a life skills group that is targeted towards pre-teens and teens whom have difficulty with daily living skills. Areas that are addressed include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Dressing/appropriateness of clothing
  • Personal hygiene
  • Health and Nutrition
  • Exercise
  • Transportation
  • Meal preparation/cooking
  • Kitchen/home safety
  • Household chores/clean up
  • Safety awareness
  • Shopping/gift giving
  • Ordering at restaurants
  • Advanced telephone use
  • Working constructively within a peer group setting
  • Money management

These skills are taught in as realistic situations as possible, which may include outings to area restaurants, stores, or appropriate facilities. It is a fun and exciting way to incorporate learning of these crucial skills for your pre-teen/teenaged child; as well as working with their peers.
